NEW CONTACT IN MEKONG DELTA

Thanks to the connection from our valuable partner Associated Professor (Mr.) Van Pham Dang Tri - Director of the DRAGON Mekong Institute of Can Tho University, Blue Dragon management team (BDP team) had a great chance to get to know about the Academy of Politics Region IV in Can Tho City via a formal meeting at the office of the Academy in June.

Follow that, we had the pleasure of welcoming a delegation from the Academy of Politics Region IV from Can Tho, Vietnam, to the headquarters of Water Authority Delfland in Delft.

Our Delfland colleagues, Ronald de Jong and Peter Hollanders , shared their insights on effective delta management, with a special focus on the challenges and strategies in the western part of the Netherlands. Their presentation included a number of compelling examples that highlighted practical solutions to complex water issues.

Following the presentation about water management in the historic city center of Delft, the delegation enjoyed a guided walk through Delft’s historic city centre, where they learned how the city manages its water systems and protects its heritage from flooding risks.

Conclusion: There are striking similarities between the Netherlands and Vietnam’s Mekong Delta—such as alternating wet and dry periods, land subsidence, and salinization. These shared challenges present great opportunities for mutual learning and collaboration.
