O MON - XA NO SUBPROJECT

General information of O Mon - Xa No Subproject (OMXN Subproject) as following: 

  • It is located in the west of Can Tho City, a rural area of Can Tho City, Kien Giang, and Hau Giang province.
  • It is an embankment to protect the area from floods with sluice gates to drain the area at low tide.
  • It was 80% funded by the World Bank and has been completed.
  • The operation and maintenance of the project have commenced and have been transferred to the three respective DARD’s in the two provinces and Cantho City.
  • The OMXN subproject aims to control saline intrusion for 45,430 ha of natural land and increase freshwater to irrigate 41,123 ha of agricultural land for 2-3 rice crops, including: improving transportation connectivity within the subproject area.
  • Scope of the civil works includes: Construction of 99 secondary sluices/culverts (68 open sluices and 31 culverts); and reinforcement of 16 kilometers (km) of Xa No canal embankment for landslide protection.
OMXN SUB-PROJECT ALLOCATED ON THREE PROVINCES

According to the initial proposal and Project Document of the three localities of Can Tho, Hau Giang and Kien Giang, the OMXN Sub-project was selected as a typical case to be integrated into the training content to improve the capacity of local officials of the Blue Dragon Pools, to open up directions to solve the following topics:

  • Operation and Maintenance (O&M) in the two provinces of Kien Giang, Hau Giang and Can Tho city, jointly developing a common O&M Plan.
  • Flood Risk Management (FRM) all three provinces and cities jointly build an assessment map to monitor the status of the sub-project's dike, to ensure the function of flood protection to ensure the livelihoods of the core area inside.

 

YEP PROGRAM

 

After the success of the Young Expert Programme (YEP) in the first phase of the Blue Deal and 14 Yeppers have finished their YEP programme. In the phase 2, A tailor-made programme for Blue Deal Local Young Experts will be set up in collaboration between the Programme Office and the YEP programme starts in the fall of 2022. The training programme will be tailor-made for the Blue Deal and carried out by the YEP Programme Office. 

The main goal of the programmes is to:

  • offer young Dutch professionals the opportunity to gain experience abroad
  • offer young local professionals the opportunity to gain experience with working in an international environment through Dutch organisations,
  • ensure a strong local presence of the partnership, optimise the partnership and increase the impact of the Dutch Experts  in the stationed country.

Additionally, YEP Programmes rejuvenates the Dutch international cooperation sector and provides organisations with highly skilled young professionals.

The Programmes will offer civil servants from our local partners to a great chance for self-development and getting new inspiration for the contribution to the organisation.
